CREATING A SENSE OF COMMUNITY

As a graphic design consultant to architects Harry Myerberg & Associates, Willoughby developed environmental graphics and signage for the revitalization of the Southeast Neighborhood Library, a historic community library in our nation’s capitol. The graphic storytelling was inspired by engravings from Canterbury Tales discovered on the original fireplace (newly exposed to become a central gathering place) and the desire to welcome the outside community in. We solicited photographers from Flickr.com who had shot in the DC area to donate their work for the main corridor and we roamed around ourselves with cameras in hand to capture alphabet characters from signs in the Capitol Hill neighborhood for the children’s area.
