The Kansas City Ad Club launched a city-wide challenge: the agency with the best concept for the annual awards show would be selected to design the show. Willoughby submitted “MADDYs” and won the honors. Vodka rocks. Smoke-filled offices. Loose expense accounts. It was the heyday of the “Ad Men” of Madison Avenue, circa 1960s. Brands were being born.
